Private schools usually have better education, but many private schools are christian private schools, so the stuff they teach will be marred with religion. Public schools have many benefits that I personally hold in high regard. In private schools, kids are only around other kids that are usually white and rich, usually. When these kids are thrown into the real world or are transferred out of private schools, they're not used to other kids who are less fortunate financially and are different from them. Those kids usually end up staying away from others or even criticizing others. Kids in public schools are exposed to all kinds of kids with all kinds of backgrounds and therefore are taught tolerance for everyone.
Personally, this is a good enough reason to keep my kids out of private schools.

Neither public nor private is better. Some are better for some people. Usually public schools can give a greater variety of courses. On the other hand, the learning environment is usually better at a private school. It really depends on what you are looking for. If it is a question about getting into a college or university, always make sure that your school is acredited whether it is private or public. After that, it is really what suits you or the student better.

Just because you go to private school doesn't mean that you are a snob and that you are really rich. Some of the students that go to private have been bullied in public school or they parents send them there because they feel like their child isn't given any challenging academics course in public school. It's many different reason why kids go to private school and it not because the kids are rich either. I go to private school now because I was getting bullied in public because the other kids were jealous of what I had. But it's some stuff in private school that is old to the kids that has been in public school. So you just have to play it by ear some times.

Depends on the schools..
I went to a public school for a few years, and I learned alot..then I started falling behind in classes (now I know its due to a learning disability), then I went to a private school.. I learned nothing, they actually let me skip a grade, I went from 4th to 6th... I was happy about this, until I found out that many of the third and fourth graders didn't know how to read or write...all I know is that they are still up and running today...scary..
I ended up trying another private school, they were rumored to have an art teacher who taught at an art museum that worked there, and they taught the kids German from kindergarten up.. and I went there, they had recently fired the art teacher, and the classrooms were "open" with cloth dividers and drapes - no real rooms, I couldn't hear what any teacher in any of my classes were saying..especially the German teacher, who was in the middle of a large room of little "open classrooms".
In the end I ended up going back to public school.

When choosing a school, you should look at the specifics of the school rather than generalities of similar school.
For the most part, public schools suck. However, in the *suburbs* in the Birmingham Alabama area, there are some really good schools because of the money factor. Vestavia Halls and Mountain Brook have wonderful schools, and there are very few private schools.
On the other hand, Birmingham City schools are unmitigated crap.

Private school is usually better. Why else would parents spend a minimum of $10,000 a year on school for no reason if they could just send their kids to a good public school for free. It would makes no sense. I go to private school and I've been to public schoo,l I have seen the difference, private school is beyond better and beyond worth it.

I depends on the school some are better if the class rooms are not over crowded like a lot of them are today. I think it is best to research several of them and pick one.
