A leader is a visionary, while a manager handles various tasks. Both are essential to the running of a business or organization.

Another way to put it is a leader seeks the questions, while a manager seeks the answers.

A leader usually shows everyone how, what or where, whereas a manager makes sure everything gets done. Or maybe it's the other way round. I suppose the one making the most money is the better one.

A manager tells you what to do, a leader leads by example. I much prefer the absence of someone breathing down my neck, so I'll go with leader.

A manager is someone who tells you "do it", a leader is someone who sayd "Lets do it!" Being military I have seen my fair share of "managers" and "leaders". Biggest differance is their approach towards their subordinates.

they are related but a manager has given power and leader takes it, thats the simpliest explanation I could find.
