Anyday guys love gadgets. since ur guy is an outdoor guy, get him a new camping gear or a gun or something like that.
or try thinking if he ever mentioned about soem gadget he always wanted to buy but never bought.

may be some dug out sculpture,or piece of rock edicts......
or else you could do somethin creative in the primitive style
e.g.carve a heart on a soft rock or somethin....

You can make a scrap book. take chocolate kisses and love qoutes and tape them on teh bottom of the kiss and give it to him.
