For those of you eligible and supporters of Bush and the Iraq war, what is your reasoning for not joining the military? I served in the first Gulf War. I am 38 and against the war. Now you know where I stand on this, I would like to know why you choose not to serve if you believe we are doing the right thing in Iraq. I am not addressing this to current mlitary personnel. I am also not addressing the Afghanastan theater. Legitimate answers please.

I had 2 out of 4 answers by what I assummed were conservatives. One was a good answer and appreciated. One was simply hilarious. Please read his answer:

I am supportive of my gov't, which has us at war whether I agree with it completely or not. I appreciate your service in the past for the US, but other than that, it doesn't matter what your opinion is. I don't need to sign up and fight because I want to do other things.

Priceless, huh? Let's try this question again.

Iraq attacked us?????? Stop the presses. You will have to do better than that thin rationale.

I joined in 1987 right out of high school. Was in to 1995. I even voted for Bush the HW the first time. Hope this helped.

Smitty: Do we really have enough people to serve? I'm not so sure about that. Recruiting is really down. Thanks for your answer.

Michael: I could not disagree with you more, but thanks for your answer and prior service. I am a teacher so I would be remiss if I didn't ask you to work on your grammar.

elle55407: I honestly did not sign up for the education, as far as the GI bill. I didn't elect to pay for the GI bill when I was in. I joined for a job. Pure and simple with no aplogies. When I got out I paid for my own education. No help from the gov't except for loans which I paid back. I'm not holding my service over anyone's head. I was just avoidinh the inevitable question of why I don't join.

I'm not eligible. But kinda wondering...why did you join the military? And did you actually join it while we were already at war? Or did you sign up for the free education, and suddenly find yourself in the middle of it? Just curious.

And hey, thanks for serving.

Then technically, you signed up for the education, not to actually fight for the cause. Which means for you it was a trade out. So you are posing a question to people that you yourself never even had to face. You signed up for a completely different reason. Therefore, I don't really think your service background can be held over people with this question, like you are a better person than they are or something. No disrespect intended, but that's kinda what you're trying to do.

Regardless, you joined for ulterior, less honorable motives than what you are asking of the general population. I think that's my point.

And BTW - Thanks for giving me 10 pts for my other answer. You can PRETEND you only gave them to me for validation, but I saw all the Libby answers on there, and let's just say, you aren't exactly hangin' with the brightest crowd.

I am a Viet Nam Vet so I guess I qualify.

I strongly supported this war when we went in. We achieved our original goal of toppling Saddam and taking Baghdad.

The main reason we lost Nam, in my opinion was because the powers that be sat up rules of engagement that totally tied our hands.

Until the recent "surge", Iraq was basically the same way. Still is to an extent.

In Nam, when we got there, their own Army quit fighting, not caring, let us do the fighting.

Iraq is the same way. If they don't step up to the plate, I say let them have the place. We can supply the arms and equipment, they can supply the boots.

I still think we did the right thing though now I have conditions for my support

I've been in the military since 1985. Was not sent to Gulf War 1 but did go to Gulf War 2. President Bush is punishing those who attacked us. And rightfully so. I voted for the man twice and if he could run again I would vote for him again.

Well Sir, I am guilty of being a Bush supporter and I do support his decisions. I am a PROUD AMERICAN. -- I do not serve in the military because I am first and foremost a woman and a mother. Not to mention we have plenty of military personnel that are PROUD AMERICANS and are willing to serve our country and make us proud by fighting for what is right. If you can't except that, it's your problem not ours. AGREE to DISAGREE buddy.
