First, I would like to preface this by saying that I am a Laker fan as well as a Kobe fan but I do understand where much of the hate comes from. Well Kobe is the most loved/hated player in the NBA today. He already automatically gets hated by all of the Laker haters that have hated the Lakers for years, much like the Yankees but on a smaller level. I think a lot of the hate stems from how Kobe dealt with the media at a young age. In his first years in the NBA he was very reserved and didn't really say much to the press. He only reached out to the press AFTER his rape allegations. Another reason for all of the hate could be jealousy, Bryant was ranked #59 on SLAM magazine's Top 75 NBA Players of All Time in 2003. He had achieved so much at a young age, three championship rings and various all star games and endorsments, that many people didn't feel that he deserved or worked hard enough to really earn them. Also, one of the main reasons was his role in the disbanding of the "dynasty" before it could really flourish. yes, I know thats saying a lot because they already won 3 rings, but they could have gone on to arguably win at least 2 more rings if it wasn't for Kobe. Kobe had problems with Shaq, Phil Jackson, and even Karl Malone. Many people blame Kobe for the loss of a dynasty in LA and that is why his name carries such a stigma.

--- i think it is unfair that kobe gets all the blame for the break up of the lakers. what about shaq? he acts as though he was the victim and never wanted to be traded. one of the reasons shaq was traded was because he was asking for a contract extension with 3 more years and around $60m in his current contract!talk about selfishness

tell me about it. ive given up on trying to make the haters see how wonderful kobe is because they just cant see past the bad reputation he's gotten from the media. he is just so passionate and dedicated to the sport and i really admire that about him as a player and as a person. anybody can tell he loves what he does, why else would he work so hard to be better? no doubt he has an incredible amount of talent being one of the best in the nba today. and those who think otherwise are just blind of greatness.

not surprising at all. i know a guy of his caliber works hard and practices endlessly. but he isnt the only one. there are a few more hardworking players that practice hard hoping to get better. one example would be jason richardson. he gets not media attention so i dont expect anyone outside the bay to know this. but his PPG has increased every year he has been in the league with the exception of this year since he got hurt. but he was known only as a dunker coming into the nba, now he is a respectable shooter and has increased his range to be able to shoot consistent 3s. he is also one of the better rebounding guards in the league.

Totally agree with you man. The BEST aren't the best purely because of their talent. They usually have the greatest desire to win, and the greatest work ethic. Kobe is no different. Remember for a while where he was working on perfecting a bank shot, and then a left handed shot? He never stops trying to improve, gotta love it.
