i've have a acoustic guitar for about 6 months now, and i can play like songs like yellowcard and greenday, mostly chords, and i can play some of the solos (i know it's easy but i didn't spend a lot of time playing guitar since i'm a student) but what should i do to improve because i was listening to John Mayer and some other people's solo and i want to play solo, too.

what should i do

thanks

unless you have the time and/or natural talent to play all types of guitar music, I'd concentrate on either rhythm or lead. If you want to make lead guitar your thing, then perhaps get a couple of lessons just to get you started on the right track. You sound as though you've achieved a fair bit by yourself, so just get some professional advice and go from there.

Learn your scales backwards and forwards....learn chords and what makes those chords learn how those are connected in the scales...then just listen to your favorite guitarist and try to rip them off...then you will naturally grow from there...of course that depends on how much time you have to practice, practice, practice

Learn scales, keys, chord progressions and modes.
Be diversified, expand your repertoire, don't stick to one style.

I would recommend learning to play some blues scales/riffs. I am self taught and I've been playing about 13 years now. Once you learn some blues scales/riffs, it really seems to expand your abilities.
