OK - Here's the situation:

I currently live in Washington, DC - but the girl I've been seeing (and who I'd like to be exclusively dating) lives in San Diego, CA. I am flying out to San Diego on Valentine's day and should arrive around 8:30pm. I've already told her that I want to take her out and do something for the holiday, but I'm not really sure what to do.

I'm looking for something romantic... but not too too expensive. Is there a romantic location i could take her to talk? Maybe a nice, quiet lounge to grab a drink?

Please let me know what you think a romantic San Diego Valentine's day - night would include. Remember, the night has to start after 8:30 - but can go as late as you like.

Your help is appreciated. I look forward to reading your answers.

There are so many possibilities for romantic date ideas in San Diego. Some suggestions:

a gondola ride for 2 on Coronado island
watching the sunset
a beach bonfire
star gazing (the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla or Mt. Helix in LaMesa are 2 good spots)
a cruise on the bay....get reservations to do this on Valentine's day
a night time kayak trip

It'd be helpful if we knew what your budget was. If your ticket is not final, it'd be better if you could change it. There's so many things to do by day, too, obviously the beach. You could buy some bread, meat, cheese, soda, etc. from a supermarket around there or something and have a picnic on the beach. Watching the sunset would be nice too, if you could arrive earlier. Some good restaurants around the area or in San Diego are:
Rei Do Gado Brazilian Steakhouse Restaurant, 939 4th Ave, San Diego CA 92101
(a restaurant with some buffets, having an average rating of 4.5 stars from guests)
Dobson's Bar & Restaurant, 956 Broadway Cir, San Diego CA 92101
Contiential food with a French flair.
Right, rent a car. You'll need a pretty big budget for this anways, since you need to rent a car (or use hers) and the airplane ticket, food, etc.
