typical symptoms of poor care. bowls without heat and filtration are NOT suitable.
get him at least 2.5 gallon tank, a small power filter, and a 7.5 watt heater (and of course a thermometer). a few silk plants would be good as well. also try feeding him freeze dried blood worms as a treat every now and then. once a week is good.
however, if you really want to spoil him get him a 5 gallon tank with a small power filter, 25watt heater and thermometer. they are really lively in bigger spaces.

Not eating and swimming is a likely sign that he's sick. If he's over a year old, he's probably dying.
I'm not sure why his homosexuality matters, except perhaps to you.

He probably doesnt like what you're feeding him, as for the swimming maybe the water is to cold.

if he is gay you need to take him out shopping and let him decorate. once he has a big silk plant or two he will be fine. make sure his water is clean too. gay bettas are a lot more picky about their water.
