I am a big Beatles fan myself, and I have been for awhile. For that reason, I understand that my perspective on them may be skewed (though, I doubt it). What do you think? Are the accolades showered upon them deserved? Is their music overhyped and blown out of proportion? Are they really that great?

Not at all. If you listened to them at all, know their history, their influence, the list goes on. Not to mention, great songwriters.

The Beatles are like Gods no one else ever has been able to do what the Beatles did musicaly and culturaly. Look at Beatlemania has any band ever had anything close to what they had? And there music has anyone ever done anything as good as they did? The answer to both is no. The Beatles where, are and always will be the greatest band ever. And saying their over rated well you cant be much of a fan at all can you, you git?

No way! You cannot overrate The Beatles! Ever! Their music is timeless, and their influence is heard even in some of today's music. The Beatles' are well respected by artists in
nearly all genres of music. Hard to imagine (no pun intended) a world without their songs.

Nope, they were not afraid to experiment and were the pioneers of genres that we still see today even after 30-40 something years. What the Beatles have done for rock/pop is analogous to what Beethoven has done for classical music...
I love the Beatles during their Sgt. Pepper time.

Along time ago, I didn't understand what the big deal about them was. But after listening to their music more often, I discovered what great songwriters they were. I don't think they are overrated at all. You look at when their albums came out and compare them to other music that was out at that time and you'll see how far ahead of their time they were.

An opinion from someone who was about 12 when they first came to the USA: The Beatles, have always been and will always be worth my loyalty and respect for their music. They started out "hot" when the first came here and they are still "hot" and their music will be around for years to come.

They were huge for their time. When U.S. listen to U.S. born music. Beatles came in and were amazing (the Hype was so huge; sometimes they are overrated , but the heart of John Lenon keeps them going and for that they will live forever in Music)

Actually, I think they are very overrated. People call them "the greatest band ever" so much that people who've only heard one or two songs start jumping on the bandwagon. That's popular culture for you though - everyone starts agreeing regardless what they really think. Their music is really good though, in my opinion.

i guess they're overrated, but i'd rather people say the beatles are good than all these awful bands people listen to now.
now i think radiohead are the beatles of our time.
