A communist believe that all men are created equal and must work for the state. All revenues go to the state coffer and the people just receive the necessaries in life without the luxury enjoyed by industrious employees and capitalists in a democracy.

Communism, as envisaged by Marx and Engels, has never existed on this earth, in practice. It exists only in theory, as a counterpoint to other ideologies, some of which do exist e.g. fascism, capitalism, socialism. The Soviet Union, for example, used capitalistic best practices to institute a rigid form of state capitalism for, what, seventy years! North Korea is a totalitarian state kidding itself that it's a socialist paradise.
The big stumbling block for Communism is that it appears to negate the idea of what most think -- and I stress 'think' -- is liberty: the freedom to develop as an individual, in a free society. In fact, the opposite would be the case if a communist state existed. However, the further problem here is that Communism implicitly supports the idea of equality for all. A few moments reflection will show that the two concepts -- freedom and equality -- are mutually exclusive, regardless of the politics: if I'm free, then I'm free to be more equal than others -- an incorrigible contradiction for communism.
Capitalism, as Marx et al correctly showed, has no problem with contradictions, and stresses the idea of individual freedom to the exclusion of equality. The huge irony here is that freedom under capitalism is now limited to buying your groceries, autos, fishing rods etc at your favorite mall and choosing what TV program to watch. In time, those freedoms will be eroded also by further concentration of market and government forces that will limit your choices. So, under capitalism, you have neither true freedom nor true equality (the same is true for any other 'ism').
A true communist state -- which Marx likened to a state of mind -- necessitates a paradigm shift in the way humans utilise the world and each other. That is not likely to occur, given the competitive and anti-social cultural baggage that almost all societies continue to develop and promote.
What is actually happening is a merger between some of the aspects of state socialism, state capitalism and some 'free' market systems within all established and emerging liberal democracies.

A communist believes in lowering the standard of living of those who have successfully worked toward a comfortable life to meet the low standard of living of the less fortunate. The logical thing to do would be to try to raise the lower standards of living to a higher standard of living, but that would take away power from those who are ordering the people to stay in a certain underclass. Without resources, the people will have a harder time rising up. Communism also causes people to give up. Why work so hard for nothing? You will not benefit from working your rear end off b/c the government will just take what your hard work has earned, partly for themselves, and partly to give to those who haven't put in the effort that you have, and therefore don't have as much. That is why communist countries are so poverty-stricken. There is no incentive to strive for the better, to be innovative or creative, or to work hard at anything or for anything. Free countries thrive, communist countries do not.

okay this is where Americans get confused. Communism was NOT what was practiced in the former USSR/now Russia. Communism means that things be dictated for the good of the whole. Stalin, and the eastern block were countries run by dictators, Communism and Socialism are NOT what we are sold by the conservative, right-wing, business monger, Walmart pushers that run the U.S.A. When you see a handicap parking sticker, that is Socialism/Communism in action. If you are in a place that has special parking for pregnant mothers, that is Socialism/Communism in action. Not being able to smoke in public is Socialism/Communism in action. This sums up the theory behind Communism, not what took place in the USSR, that was just a bunch of thugs who weren't massacred by Stalin. "From: according to ability, To: according to need" WOW isn't that a psychotic idea

Marx said it as "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." You put in what you can, and take what you need. No money is needed, the state provides it all. Think of it as 100% income tax and government housing and cheese in return. It quickly deteriorates because not all people have the same work ethic, so those who work harder support the ones who don't. Plus, why bust your *** when you make the same as the guy next to you who doesn't? No chance to improve your lot in life means no motivation to work harder/smarter, which leads to stagnation and eventual starvation of the gov't coffers, corruption, hoarding, etc. The book "Communism" by Richard Pipes is a brilliant book on the subject. Its a nice philosophy, but never works, unless you're a college kid who wants to save the world, facts be damned.

I'll bet the answer you'll get from the neocons will be to ask a liberal. The better answer is to google "communism." If you're really interested, there's a lot of good reading to be had there and it'll be closer to the truth then what you'll hear here.
