Because China is one of the two countries lending us a lot of money to fund our war with Iraq. We don't have the money to attack China, even if we had any reason to.

China with all its faults is the least of the US' problems - that's because it is an essential trading partner and its stability.

While many may not agree with China's methods of handling with its people, you can't fault the govt's agenda of stability. Stability is essential for trade, as it provides business with the ability to make plans and understand the near term future. With Iraq, who would dare to build a factory if the likelihood of it being bombed or its employees kidnapped/shot?

You don't get much terrorism in China, if any. Bombs don't go off, and China is not known for sending people to other countries in the name of a holy war. It doesn't even comment on other countries' affairs. Small, oppressed states don't have any reason to hate China. If anything, they silently approve of China competing with the US for world power, as "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".

Just realise that a lot of western countries don't particularly like America and American views of the world (ie US is no. 1). A lot of countries think that there should be another world opinion apart from the US one.

Even if the US treats China as an enemy, China is essentially an "economic enemy" (if there is such a term). It competes with the US for jobs and $. That's about it.

That said, in order for China to be a responsible player as a superpower, it needs to be transparent in its dealings and have adequate human rights protections. It must also reach a stage where doing what is right is put before the almighty dollar, and protect unstable regions by committing to put troops in areas where the UN deems necessary.

The US has nothing to worry about China as it is not going to attack the US nor any country any time soon (I hope). Americans just have to get over their pride of being #1 in the world and realise that values of most people in the world aren't American, let alone based on Christian ones.

I comprehend. The Shiite majority might choose to have absolute authority in Iraq. To bloodbath the Sunni in retaliation for years of oppression decrease than Saddam. Al Queada levels massacres to foment civil warfare the two against it extremely is fellow Sunnis and against the Sunni. Iraq has a freely elected government representing the main factions Shiia Sunni and Kurd. no person faction has authority with out some consensus from the others. The consensus government does not choose to be deserted in it extremely is time of suffering to verify its self securely. right here in the country our elected representatives could evaluate the greater beneficial implications on the way forward for the international if we renounce Iraq to the Islamist Fundamentalist terrorists ... and not merely supply thank you to the whims of the armchair strategists like us. (*thinking how i could supply Linda D a million/2 a thumbs down ... basically for the final part of her answer ... A clever little ploy to be a million/2 ideal and a million/2 incorrect ... no one might choose their thumbs down misinterpreted)

i agree. not only will china be threatening US, it threaten EU and most western nations too. their system of governance and values differs from the western nations. just look at their poor human right records and alliance with oppressive regimes, like Russia, Myammar, N Korea, Iran etc. all of which are oppse to US and its allies too. China just became the 4 largest economy in the world, just after US, Japan and germany. and its econmoy is growing close to double digit. its not surprising that it will over take these nations soon.yet till now, no other nation except US is taking any actions to contain China's influence. japan has always been a follower nation, not taking any initiative in world issues. the ruling party in germany is still trying to stablise its domestic polices. other nations like france is not on good terms with US and britain is trying to alienate from US.
and yes, its a worrying trend to see china getting stronger and stronger but no other nations is doing anything abt it. this task will prob fall on the new administration.

So what if they are. Do you think that you Americans should go in and start a war just to keep them from not being a super power. How arrogant.
That attitude is why you guys start so many problems for non-Americans. I am Canadian - and I will speak for us Canadians. Stop creating headaches that every other country has to deal with.
