During the upshift, the tach revs up from 2K RPM to about 4K RPM as if it was on neutral or park for about 1 second then goes into D2 (while the van is accelarating). The same happens when it upshifts to D3 but not too noticeable to D4. Is getting a used low mileage transmission worth or is it still repairable ? And what does the repair manual mean when it says "flaring"? Thanks.

a cheap attempt would be to flush the transmission fluid and use honda factory fluid. i have a honda that does not shift well with non-honda fluid.

Oh, boy, better get that tranny looked at. If it's still the original, it's probably past the extended warranty (7 yrs, 100,000 miles), so no relief there, unfortunately.

I have a 1999 Oddy LX and had the original replaced in 2003 after 93,000 miles w/ a rebuilt one. The problem, if I recall correctly, was insufficient cooling, a problem throughout all Hondas using V6 engines during that time. It's been rectified in the last few years, I understand. I'm at 205,000 and still humming...

For the 99 honda odyssey, they had a recall on the transmission but I dont its covered by the dealer.You might wanna check out the your mechanic before it gets any worst
