The healing time required depends on the kind of break it was, where it was located, and what was required to repair it, as well as how old your co-worker is and what the overall health status was, and if there were other injuries as well. All of those are factors which can slow the healing time. If a surgical repair were required, with external fixation devices, pins and the lot, then 4 months isn't really all that wild a time frame. Broken bones don't just mess up the bone, they also mess up the muscles and tendons attached, and you don't manufacture blood cells in that damaged bone. A good deal of the blood is manufactured in the femur, the upper leg bone, and a fracture there can leave you seriously anemic. So yes, it does make sense.

It depends on which bone they broke, the severity of the fracture, if they will require surgery, etc... It can take a long time for a fracture to heal properly.

The process in which a bone takes to repair is lengthy in time. For a fracture of any bone in the leg this is a resonable amount of time. It took two mounths for me to recover from just a dislocated knee.

it sounds like they may have had to due some surgery on her leg. If this is the case then it will take a long time for it to heal.
