if so, what would it do to the engine?

I had a 92. and yes they can. If it's a stick. Just be careful because they pull to the right like crazy. Torque steering. After doing it a few time you will burn the clutch. I burned mine so bad that I had it in the drive way worming up and went in the house to get something, came back out and it was in gear. It's didn't even move.

these cars arnt ment for this i own a 92 metro convertable and its 17 hp more powerful than the 91 i cant even spin the tires the width of a crosswalk much less a intersection now if you can spin the tires it will mess up the clutch in the transmission as these cars have VERY SMALL clutches even the automatics have smaller chutches if you want to have costly repairs then do it cause these cars give you what you give them no lie your car is a value as it gets the best mpg on the road for the 90's plus there nice cars dont mess it up

I was going to make the same trip. I also have a 1991 Metro and mine had 183,000.1 miles on it. Other then the mileage difference everything else was the same. Mine blew up getting onto I-5. I was doing 75 mph in first gear and that may have led to my engine blowing up. Try doing 74 mph and you should be OK. Also make sure your valve stem caps are tight. Also try using Charles Schwab for your alignment so you can trade stocks while waiting for your alignment to get done.

If it's stick I guess since it's FWD if you Rew the snot out the engine and dump the clutch it might brake the tires loose. Across the intersection? Better be a short one . As far as the engine goes. It just might.

I've seen it done, but after closer inspection, the engine was removed and the car was redesigned for a 500ci Caddilac. It was a sleeper/drag car. However you just don't have the power in the 3 or 4 cylinders that thing had.

well i dont think that with that car you would make it even halfway across intersection i owned one for a short time and even standing on the brakes with it floored it wouldnt even chirp on paint i dont know if they came in standard i suppose so with that you might have a chance of getting it to for a very short distance but never an entire intersection

Those cars have great torque..yes they will smoke tires acroos an intersection...assuming you have a standard transmission...just watch rpms..overrevving will destroy engine fast. I had a Chevy Sprint..same 3 cyl engine..lasted over 180,000 miles. (without fryin tires through intersections)

no way unless converted to a rear wheel drive modified.
a 91 geo is a front wheel drive vehicle. unless you locked up rear brakes with e-brake and dragged it through the intersection

how about pouring bleach on the tires and rev the engine and release the break that will produce smoke but why ??

I'm sure it's possible but you'll look like a complete jackass. No one thinks that is cool, especially not in a crappy roller skate car.
