For those of you eligible and supporters of Bush and the Iraq war, what is your reasoning for not joining the military? I served in the first Gulf War. I am 38 and against the war. Now you know where I stand on this, I would like to know why you choose not to serve if you believe we are doing the right thing in Iraq. I am not addressing this to current mlitary personnel. I am also not addressing the Afghanastan theater. Legitimate answers please.

Beachman: Bush cronies say that we are fighting for the very freedom of all americans in Iraq, but if you have other things to do...well I guess you are special and can be excused.

I'm joining the airforce: I didn't give you a "thumbs down". I don't think I did. If I did by mistake, I apologize. We are on the same page.

Hopeful: I did serve in the first Gulf War and do not support the Iraq war. That is true. Do I really need to explain how that can be? You seem to question this. And I never said you can't support the war and not fight. This is America and you have that right, at least for right now. Be careful of what you wish for.

You fought in the Gulf War and yet you don't support the Iraq War? Why is it that I can't support President Bush and the war without going to fight?? And what exactly are you NOT addressing to our currant military personal?

I can't understand why anyone joins the military. Most of the people fighting in the US military are kids, in their late teens and very early 20s. I don't think an 18 or 19-year-old kid has sufficient knowledge to make an informed decision about taking a job where he has a good chance of being killed or wounded. We won't allow the same kid to decide whether he wants to buy a beer but we let him sign up to go into combat. It's mostly young, poor men who make all the sacrifices in a war and it's mostly rich old men who benefit from the wars.

I am supportive of my gov't, which has us at war whether I agree with it completely or not. I appreciate your service in the past for the US, but other than that, it doesn't matter what your opinion is. I don't need to sign up and fight because I want to do other things. And if you think that I should be serving, well that is your opinion.......and unfortunately for you, you are wrong.
At least I didn't sign up then decide I don't want to fight like Lt. Watada. He is worthless.
ADDITION- I do have better things to do. Besides, I am not trained. You should be over there again. Bottom line is that you are not helping the problem........just adding to it.

I in no way supported the conflict in the 1st place. i presumed the finished "weapons of mass destruction" element became into BS. i think of that the republicans help Bush simply by fact in addition they have confidence that we are able to win the conflict. nicely we are able to win yet at what value. Many lives have been already lost and we are able to in simple terms lost extra lives and waste extra of the tax payers money. Republicans are additionally helpful , they only can no longer settle for the actuality that they have got been incorrect approximately Iraq.

You made it out. My neighbors son who just got out of high school didn't. Roadside bomb. Stupid. Stupid people there. Stupid people who sent him to this no-win situation. The Iraqui children are being involved in tactics to kill. They'll keep it going! The kid got out of high scool and was an ideal son. But. It's all over for the mom. And his dad - who is a nam vet, and Purple Heart. It's over for their plans for him here in the states.
I'm 40, was in the 1st Gulf, but here's my teenage kid, no drugs, good kid, basketball star, heading for college. I love my kid. Send him to Iraq? It's different than the Gulf. Here's a CITY there with a population of several million fanatics hiding in the alleys. He'd have people over there in Iraq out to kill, just for the sake of killing...they don't know WHY...they have no sense of "improving" their country. But Bush wants 5,000 more and my son, to send there so we can "end this senseless killing"? Mr. President, "The culture there may never be wanting to stop".
