There are quite a few hotels around D/FW Airport. I am familiar with the area on the north side of the airport along Highway 114. Anything you find along 114 within 3-5 miles of the airport (either in Irving or Grapevine) should be okay.
There is a Sleep Inn that I stayed in a few years ago (although living in Dallas, it was more convenient to stay at a hotel close to the airport when catching an early morning flight) that was nice. Not too much in the way of amenities, but clean room, continental breakfast, and free high speed internet. The hotel is within about a 5 minute drive to the airport. Next door to the Sleep Inn is a La Quinta. (Haven't stayed there but it is fairly new).
There is plenty to choose from in the area. I would suggest checking out one of the travel web sites or the hotel chain of your choice for something in the area.
(There are probably other areas that you could stay as well, I just don't have experience with them.)

You can also go into Irving and find plenty of hotels that are safe and are certainly cheaper than staying at or near DFW Airport. Go onto Google and put in Hotels in Irving Texas and see what pops up. Hope your stay is great!!

Do NOT go to expedia, that site is expensive.
Go To priceline.com - you get to pick the area you want the hotel, how many starts the hotel is, and you name your own price.
I got 3*** hotels in downtown Austin for $50 per night, 4**** in South Beach for $90 per night, and 3*** in Indianapolis on New Years Eve for $40, and 3*** in Providence for $45.
