This is my second year at a top co-ed boarding school and I love it. Most of the kids are friendly and the teachers make a point of getting to know their students.
I'm not sure if transferring for the last two years of high school is the best decision, but several students do it. Boarding school is a once in a lifetime opportunity and if you are interested, you should definitely apply.
Some people have very bad experiences at boarding school, but many times it was not their own decision to go. Many kids enjoy the experience.
The college debate is very big at boarding schools. Some people say that it is better to be valedictorian at a mediocre school than to be middle in a top school. Others say that the name is important and the college counselors have much better connections at top schools. Regardless, your reason for attending boarding school should be something other than college.
IMO the top girls schools are Miss Porter's and Emma Willard, but I don't know very much about the single sex schools.
