Ive been hearing an occasional clunk moan noise under my car, ford bronco ll.Then one day out of the blue it started wobbling-the steering wheel and car- and just all over the road.I took it to a shop where the man thoroughly checked everything out,He said everything thing looked tight, only thing he could tell was the wheel bearings needed to be packed and tightened and the front shocks needed to be replaced.I knew the shocks needed to be replaced so that couldnt be it out of the blue.So he did the job.I picked it up, wobble better but not resolved. Now when i back out at a sharp angle and press the break i hear a metal to metal grind.I also encountered a huge POP when i turned very shrply into a parking space.I simply pulled out, it POPPED back and drove fine. What happened?Did he tighten the bearings too much?He assured me if he pulled them and saw metal he would suggest i replace them.assume they are(were) good.I also replaced the tires.Taking back 2mrw.

Your Machanic is right.

Wheel Bearing you will want to replace both inner and outer bearings and the seals along with the Cotter pin. for both Driver and passanger side. yes the bearings can be cleaned and re packed with grease depending on the baring casing.

Popping Noises sounds like you have a boken Linkage where you turn and you get popping noises. I depends if you have 2wd or 4wd. Depending the how long you have had this Vehicle or if bought used off of somone it shounds like you have to spend some money. Front end Linkages for the stearing most have grease fittings that should be checked every 3,000 miles when you change your oil. It is best to have them greased or if you do your oil get a grease gun. There are other Linkages that have rubber gromets and in thime the rubber does dry out becomes brittle and you snape the bolt which is another soouce of popping noises.

Shocks usually last aboout 45,000 miles to about 65,000 miles. A good sign is if you start to feel bouncing 3 times that is another sing. I you ever have a shock that starts to leak replace it. Having Bad Worn Shocks with the wheels bounching to the bumps in the road will vibrate the suspension linkages and will alsosend mor shock to the axels where your wheel bearings are and if you neglect it you could snap a axle.

Anytime you change Shocks it's best to change all 4. Lifetime Warrenty Shocks you be the Boss. Lets say the shocks are rated 60,000 miles. You notice the front end need it. at 50,000 Just say to the service tech you want all 4 changes if he only says the rears are still good. Tell them you rather do it no its up on the lift do it all at 1 time even if you have to make a appointment.

NEW Shocks are ver noticable and you can't miss them.
Always keeo the air pressure equal also like mist vehicles 30 p.s.i. Winter time you can add about 2-3 p.s.i. more. Cold winters everthing condenceses
All this will help you in having a nice ride.

The Bronco II is 4WD isn't it? Possibly with a locking hubs? Is it possible that the hub or hubs are locked and causing problems when you turn the wheel?

This might explain why you had a problem when driving the vehicle earlier.

Good luck
