AMD is cheaper and generally faster. Either one will work, it's more up to the operating system you're using to deal with that. Buy a computer that you like and that seems like the right one for what you want, don't get hung up on the processor itself. If you're going to run Linux and a bunch of different operating systems, or very unique software, then Intel MIGHT be safer, but I'd buy AMD. I DO buy AMD.

It depends on what family of processors you speak of. If you are talking about the dual cores and the core 2 duos, the Intel line currently holds the bar high. AMD has yet to release an equivalent processor that performs as well as a Core 2 Duo. However, AMD has always been known to fall short at first, then come back and surpass Intel with performance. If it weren't for that fact, Intel would not have any reason to continue pushing the envelope with their products.

I own three AMD processors-based systems - and Athlon 1800+, 2800+, and X2 5000+. I simply prefer AMD products over Intel as I prefer NVidia products over ATI. But, I will not lie when asked which processor is the better out of two.

I agree that the Celeron processors overclock well without need for additional heat dissipation. However, they are far from being 'gaming processors'. They are specifically marketed with budget systems, and they do much less work per clock cycle than their Pentium counterparts.

Kind of a loaded question. If you're looking at the middle of the pack, it comes down to personal preference. If you're looking for high-end processors, go with Intel. Though AMD came out with dual-core processors before Intel, they kind of sat back on their laurels and didn't innovate. Intel responded with Core Duo, then Core 2 Duo which in just about all arenas will blow AMD out of the water. Add to that the fact that only AMD's latest top-of-the-line processors support DDR2 memory, while all Intel Core Duo and above processors work with DDR2. At the high end, Intel processors are also more energy efficient and run cooler.

That really all depends on who you are and how much computer knowledge you have and what you plan on doing with your computer. If your just the type to browse the internet and come on here every once in a while. Then any will do. But if your a HARD CORE gamer. They are starting to lean towards the AMD and Celeron. Because the newer Pentium are being made so you can NOT over clock them. Mainly to help prevent retailers from buying a computer... OC the CPU..then selling it for a higher price than what it's suppose to be.

They are both good. However, Which one is best varies depending on what they have available at the time. AMD was the best until Intel ptut their Core 2 Duo out. Currently, teh Core 2 Duo is the best in pretty much every way, efficiency, noise, speed, power everything.

There is little difference in performance. AMD is slightly less expensive but Intel can be purchased with 3 Ghz speed

AMD states it is the world's fastest processor with speeds up to 2.6 Ghz which appears to be slower than Intel but in prqctice is just as fast.

AMD did $3.7 Billion in business last year, somewhat greater than Intel.

My advice: get the highest speed processor at the lowest cost and possibly get the "dual core" which allows twice your multi-tasking.

If your looking at budget yes amd is the best bang for the buck however currently the newest Core 2 pentium is faster. Dont get me wrong I always use amd but then again i don't have a lot of money. AMD does more per MHz though.

it depends, intel supports a wide variety of gaming and media features which amd doesn't. If you use windows OS it is generally more compatible with intel. else if it is a pure professional pc AMD is cheaper and faster.
