I have to write a research plan, but I am not sure how. Anyone have any tips?

It's just an outline of what you intend to demonstrate, and why your experiment or display does indeed demonstrate it. In other words, start with the question: How does a thing work, or what happens when such conditions obtain, or whatever. Then tell what you know about it from your books. It's a good idea to cite the actual book and page. Now how you expect your experiment will demonstrate the truth of what you see in your books. This involves a detailed description of the steps of the experiment. And finally, what conclusions you can draw from the results of your experiment.

As one of my teachers said, tell them three times. Tell them what you are going to tell, then tell them, then tell them what you have told them. Like a lawyer with opening statement, presentation of evidence, and closing argument.
