Many things come to mind: Doctors, teachers, executives, policemen, etc.

What is it that we value? Outcomes? Opportunities? Investments?

Supply and Demand

we demand things that will help us (as an individual or a society). Doctors saves lives and are in low supply because of all the training it takes,
teachers in other countries are in high demand because of what they do to help our society, sort of an investment, but here in the U.S. teachers are less demanded, and more supply of them, countries like China don't allow just anyone to be a teacher, you must be at least a college graduate and a clean record to be a teacher.
policemen help keep us safe, which of course is in high demand, and policemen of bad neighborhoods are paid more too....because they risk their lives too keep us from losing our lives

executives on the other hand are not in high demand, but they are in low supply, which people will value them more. a good executive is hard to find these days, and if you find one, you are very lucky. that is why executives are valued.

now this is why a janitor or a busboy is not valued as much, they do help but not as much and it is easy to replace them. anyone can do the job, and therefore it is in very high supply

so pretty much supply and demand is the answer to why we value different occupations.

Dont you feel that our values are all out of wack? We look at Pro Athletes like they are Gods, Pay them like Kings. these people get away with murder, drug use, some of them are active gang members for crying out loud. They are supposedly role models for kids yet they act like children fighting in the middle of games. Movie stars are just as bad. They are guilty of the things I mentioned above. also forcing their political view on us like they are someone who has a political science degree. Geezus you are an actor your whole life is you pretending to be someone else.
Politicians- most of these people are making up the laws we follow and breaking them as fast as they are written. selling our country down the river for monetary gain,.
My Heros are the people who are paid a paltry sumfor true hard work. Military, FireFighters,EMS,Police.
Get it straight America look for real heros
