If i love someone without her being aware of the same... if i dream about her and feel her close to me everytime in each passing breath of mine. If the mere thought of her obviates the need for her to be physically present close to me... Is my love unreal or fake? If yes, why is love a slave to reciprocation and acknowlegement?

True love can be one sided. It is call unrequited love, and I believe it is probably the most painful.

I suppose it is seen as a 'shameful' thing to love and not be loved back, thus it is not acknowledged as often.

sadly in some or most cases, yes, love is one sided... and the "necessary" part is really up to the individual's depth of love... some people continue loving the person unconditionally no matter what happens--that's rare nowadays... almost everyone loves conditionally, but the depth of each person's love varies... if you really love that person, what are you doing about it??? why don't you approach her and PERSISTENTLY keep asking her out though she doesn't reciprocate???

that's what my bf did, and it took 1 1/2 yrs before i started reciprocating... he still does more for him than i do for him, but he's happy that way and i'm appreciating his patience and caring...

Yes in that case it is real. You can always love and be loved in return but being loved in return isn't always the case. I mean look at all the people who break up when the other person doesn't want to.
