Let me explain, many different cultures have been the major power in the world: Egypt (Too many), Rome ( Alexander the Great), Greece( Ceasar), Asia (Genghis Khan), And now Europe ( this includes the united states). So why do we continue to be greedy and hoard resources and power? If we all worked towards making things better they would be. A great example is oil, the only reason we use oil is they have a lot of money. There has been clean fuel sources for cars since the 60's. Why make a hybrid when you can make an electric car?

You can see from a few of the other answers that most people have no idea what the latest electric cars are like. Technology doesn't stand still, yet people complain about electric car flaws that existed 20 or 30 years ago as though they were insurmountable problems. Here's a current electric car:
*
http://phoenixmotorcars.com/models/fleet.html
*
The Phoenix, based on the latest Altairnano batteries, gets up to 250 miles per charge, can travel 95mph with five passengers plus cargo, can charge its batteries in only ten minutes, and boasts a battery life of better than 200,000 miles.
*
Yes, it's a real car which can be preordered for delivery later this year. The revolutionary batteries are based on research from MIT.
*
As an electric car owner myself, I can testify that NOTHING is as cheap to drive as an EV. Electricity costs me about a penny per mile - compared to 10 to 15 cents per mile for gasoline.
*
So why isn't this car all over the news media? Why don't people know how cheap an EV is to drive? What's your theory?

The electric car is a good idea, but it has limited practicality at this time. The range of an electric car and the "refueling" time makes the electric car impractical for most longer distance drivers such as myself. My communte to work and back is 45 miles each way. The average one way non refueled distance of an electric car is about 40 miles. This means that I would not quite have enough electircial power to go one way to my job. I work night shift, so solar will not help me until my morning commute from work to home. I love the idea of the Hybrid car, such as the Toyota Prius. I woudl like to see a plug in model with solar rechargers placed on the roof of the car made available to the public. This would make the Prius several times more fuel effecient than it currently is. I have heard of Prius's which get in excess of 150 MPG!!! This would make a major dent in our oil dependency, but only IF this high MPG became the norm and not the exception. Also, you mixed up your Roman and Greek leaders. Alexander the Great was Greek and the Ceasars were from Rome.

You're just parroting nonsense that you've heard. Think for yourself, boy. We constantly learn from the mistakes of history -- practically everything you do every moment of the day is an example of behavior that is a correction and an improvement to old habits that caused harm. The federal reserve has avoided lowering interest rates because they've learned from history that too easy money causes substantial inflation. We vote for a president every four years because our founding fathers learned that if you don't cycle through politicians on a regular schedule you'll get stuck with tyrant kings.
We've been using oil instead of electric cars and alternative fuels simply because it is the most economical and productive source of energy. It was a very financially smart thing to do every step of the way, and we today are far richer for it. It's the most palatable mix of costs versus benefits.
That's not greedy, it's thrifty common sense. You can blab all you want, but even you are not going to pay $50 for something when you can get it for $20 instead.

Mankind frequently learns nicely from blunders, yet extra from their very personal journey than the teachings of history. For an party, assume you get burnt once you're youthful, you'd be a lot extra careful even as taking section in with fireplace contained in the destiny. in case you've been not in any respect burnt & do no longer understand of the discomfort, you could be a lot extra carefree about it, even even with the actuality that you've been advised that it truly is risky. Getting burnt is merely an party, yet with assistance from an identical token. I do have self belief to three degree, that we favor to in my opinion journey (or witness even) the outcomes of our blunders to circumvent us from making them many times

You've sort of answered your own question; throughout history the most powerful empires have always been corrupted by money and power in the end, even if they started out with promising ideals (as the US did).
