My car idles fine, until it is put in drive, then it starts shaking. If i put it in drive and apply the parking break, when i rev (still in drive) i can hear a tick tick tick from the transmission. when its in park, reverse or neutral there is no tick. Its a 1989 thunderbird. The fluid level is correct and was changed 8000 miles ago.

What might be the problem?

Sounds like a bad transmission. Better get it to a reputable transmission shop.

Check the fluid for any discoloration and see if it smells like its burning. It sounds like you may have a problem and you may soon need a rebuild. I also cant recommend if you do have a bad tranny trying to put it in drive with the parking brake engaged. Could worsen the problem.

sounds like either your torque converter is going, but more like your fly wheel has some cogs broken off causing the click and jerking motion ...
