2.66? Well, to be frank, you better start getting good grades from now on. That means no more than one C, D, or F in any semester. If you do that, you should have a good chance of getting into U.C. Davis. You should take a few AP classes. Up to 3 a year is good. If you take more, the work will overwhelm you (and you won't get enough sleep without sacrificing your grades). Especially hard ones like Calculus, Biology, or English Composition.
Do some extracurricular activities.
You could join Key Club, Interact Club, or another club that does volunteer work. You could volunteer at the public library (which comes with the advantage of getting good movies first!). You could volunteer at a hospital or many other places.
Join good clubs, such as the previously mentioned volunteer clubs, maybe a model U.N. club to improve public speaking, maybe a Newspaper club to improve your writing skills, even a cultural club like French club will help. Clubs like a certain Dance Dance Revolution Club at our school won't help you a lot for college, but could be good fun. Do your best to join CSF (California Scholarship Federation) and NHS (National Honors Society) if your school has them. These clubs are highly regarded in the U.C. system.
You will need leadership skills, so run for a position (I am the president of CSF, and class rep for a culture club). They don't all have to be presidents or anything, just as long as you have some sort of responsibility.
Join a sport if you can, and stick with it for 3 years or as long as you can to show commitment.
Study well for the SAT and SAT IIs. Not everyone's a good test-taker, so you don't need to get 2100+ on the SATs, but don't fail them. My score is in the 1800s.
Make sure you have fun in High school though, and do not over work yourself.
I'm a senior in high school in California, and I applied to U.C. Davis along with some others. Davis is where I want to go, and I hope to see you there someday.
Good Luck and have fun.

its not just about your gpa although they do take that into high consideration. with that you also have to get a high score on the SAT and write a really good essay too. do some extracurricular activities in and outside of your school too because they like well-rounded students. i'd also suggest getting a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor. good luck!

They don't count your freshman gpa. You need to REALLY pull up that GPA to get into Davis.
