Being self-centered will not make the world a better place to live. Unfortunately, many, many people are so very materialistic these days. If you look up the word "materialistic" in the dictionary "Greedy" is actually a synonym for it. Definition....The theory or attitude that physical well-being and worldly possessions constitute the greatest good and highest value in life. I don't know about you, but that doesn't seem like a good way to live your life to me. Any so called material thing that you want is merely a symbol, you want it not for itself, but because it will content your spirit for the moment. I bet given the choice between a cheap wrist watch or a beautiful sunset, most would choose the wrist watch. I've found that I get more gratification out of doing for others rather than for myself. People recognize themselves in their commodities, they find their souls in their automobiles, hi-fi sets, split-level homes, kitchen equipment....there must be more to life than having everything....think about it.
Love and Light to you always,

Wanting things is not bad but a good example of being too materialistic is Paris Hilton with her dogs and whatever that other little animal was. She treats them like jewelry.

Blind self-centeredness is what is bad.

Because YOU are so much more then just a car, nice clothes, big house etc., ec. Everything is on loan & you cannot take anythig with you.

Being materialistic is not bad - remember to give 10% to the needy & do not neglect your soul & spirit

Being materialistic is not the same as wanting a walk-in closet or a Roomba. Being materialistic is when you become obsessed with those better things and forget about better people. It's basing your opinion of someone else on their material possessions.

I agree with you. When I was younger, I would have said the a-typical answer of materalism is shallow but now, that I've grown, this is a world where you absolutely need to be materalistic. You are not anybody seriously, if you do not have a nice car, or name brand clothes.

i dont reckon it is, actually. Its human to want those things. As long as you keep an open mind and know there are also other important things, like charity. But i say, go for it. Nice things are good. But when people say materialistic, mostly rich snobby Paris Hiltons people come to mind.

There is nothing wrong with wanting nice things. I guess it's just that sometimes that is associated with not caring about other people. Kind of like gold diggers. Mainly, forming an emotional attachment to belongings is looked down upon.

Because material things are not what make a person. They don't bring happiness on their own. A lot of times people that focus on material things lose focus on the more important things in life.

basically i think its ok to have that, but look how most people turn out. i mean being rich isn't everything. i think you forget the simple pleasures of life.. when you have everything. step outside the box and just enjoy the simple things. things that involve material things isn't true enjoyment. i mean will that gucchi glasses mean as much to you when your 80? im not saying dont live your life. im just saying have things that doesn't involve material things. well im only 16 so my way of thinking might not be yours. i only wrote what i really think.
