In North America, it seems that rivers flow towards the south, or towards the equator.

So does that mean that the rivers in South America flow north, also towards the equator?

Without even leaving North America, the longest river in Canada is the Mackenzie River which flows north and into the Arctic Ocean. A number of smaller rivers also flow north and empty into Hudson Bay.

No, to both. The St. Lawrence river flows to the east, the Columbia river flows west, and the American river flows north. In South America, the Amazon flows east, and other rivers flow in all other directions.

No, of course not. Here are some counter examples.

In North America

Mackenzie River - flows north

In South America

Amazon River - flows east
(biggest river in the world by volume of water)

Orinoco River - flows east

Most rivers flow from north to south, there are some exceptions. The reason is that places to the north genarally higher elevation and then southorn areas have a lower elevation. So water flows from higher places to lower places because of gravity.

Definitely NO. Rivers flow in the direction of gravity, which is downward. More precisely, from a higher elevation to a lower elevation. The equator is just an imaginary line on the globe. It has no effect on a river's flow. A river can flow southward, northward, eastward, westward, etc. It all depends on where the lower elevation is.

not true, Nile River unbelievable flows north into the Mediterranean Sea, rivers flow downward from the mountains not towards the south of the earth, it is a completely wrong misconception to believe rivers flow south, just think that they flow from the top of mountains, not towards the south of the earth
