I tend to get very few answers when askign a question in a very specific catagory.
I also tend to get he most answers form polls and surveys..

If I am asking a silly question that I'm really not serious about, like a fav celebrity, then no. But, if I really want an answer say, about health or car maintenance and I happen to know that there aren't many answering at the time in that specific category, then I will place the question elsewhere and take my chances in getting an answer.

Seems to me if you get more answers in a certain category, then you haven't miscategorized it.
