Yes, bears are dangerous. The most dangerous bear is a sow with cubs (female bear). You never want to startle a bear so when walking through the woods in bear country you slap your hands, whistle, shout, whatever because bears do not like being startled at all. Other than that you can fish about 30 or 40 yards from brown bears when they are fishing and you can be there peacefully together. Never have any open containers of food they can smell on you or near you or they will come over to you and investigate.

Some types of bears, such as the grizzly are more dangerous than others, most bears don't want anything to do with humans, they are just looking for food, they stumble on some food or trash left by humans and when looking for more, come across humans.
If you are good to the environment and leave bears alone, you shouldn't have a problem.

Bears, like just about any wild animal have the potential to be dangerous. It is best to leave all wildlife alone. If you are messing with it, you deserve to get in trouble.

There were several attacks by black bear in 2006. One involving a 6 year old boy. There were attacks by grizzles also. Also, mountain lions.

Extremely. They prefer to avoid humans, though. The only time when they really come into contact with humans is when they're hungry and scavenging for food.
