I've never been pregnant. But I work in the health care industry. Lower back pain is not uncommon. Always ask your doctor "just in case." But you may also be sitting differently and putting strain on different parts of your vertebrea. Some women, though not showing yet, sit differently because they tend to look down at their stomach a lot or if they are just "aware" that someone's inside there. Again, check with your doctor and don't take anything for the pain without asking him/her. Oh, avoid hot baths.

I am currently 5months pregnant and my back pain has been escalating since I was 3 months. I just got back from a Dr. appointment Wednesday and he assured me it was normal. He said that while pregnant your body secrets relaxin which cause joints to relax at the same time your center of gravity shifts. He recommended a pregnancy belt ($15-$30) to offer back support and he said if the pain got to bad that Tylenol was okay to.

But if your back pain is severe to the point you can't move or stand up straight then you should definitely talk to your Dr. because it could be a sign of a complication.

yes i did, back labor too!! but here's what i did .. lay a thick blanket on the floor. lay on the blanket on your back. bring your knees up to your chest and hug your knees, stay there for a few minutes and you will feel the pain dissolve away . this releases the stress on your lower back gently without harming you or the baby . one reason your suddenly in pain is your starting to sit differently now during pregnancy. also, try this, while sitting round out your back instead of sitting straight up like a board in your chair. you can help this along by sitting on a folded towel with your "sit bones" just behind the towel on the chair (your sit bones as i called them are off the towel thus lifting your thighs up a little to ease lower back pain ).. you may want to check out yoga for pregnancy as well . it's a beautiful thing !! god bless..

Yes, I've had it really bad since about 8 weeks. I'm 24 weeks now and can't stand up for a long time w/out feeling like I'm gonna die! It sucks, huh? Just so you know, lower back pain can also be a sign of kidney infection, so you should tell your doctor.

My back didn't hurt that early on.... I actually had 4 friends that were going through it at about the same time... but I don't recall any of us having pains that early on... but pregnancy is a little different for everyone.... Ask your doctor to be sure about this and any other concerns you may have... don't rely on this forum....

And above all relax!!! We all worry way to much about everything when we are pregnant!

It is very common to have lower back pain during your gestation period. Your body is adjusting in many different ways and your muscles haven't caught up to this new weight you have in front of you. Try not to arch your back when you stand although you feel like you have to to stand up strait and try thermicare heat patches they'll give you some relief. Best of wishes

Massaging the back muscles will reduce the pain.Apply an icepack to the affected area. This will make the area numb and reduce the pain. More details and remedies at http://aches.in/backpainremedies.html

Yes it is possible. This could be because of muscle fatigue or dehydration. Try exercising all parts of your body. Consult a doctor if it persists. You can also look for information in the web. I found this website very useful. http://aches.in/cramps.html
