Chargers the Early Favorite for Next Year's Super Bowl

Already tired of talking about Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning? Then let's talk about next year. One Web site has already posted betting odds for the winner of Super Bowl XLII, and the early favorites are Marty Schottenheimer's San Diego Chargers. It seems that Vegas likes the Chargers, with 6-1 odds, because the nucleus of the 2006 squad is back, and the Chargers were the best team in the league during the 2006 regular season.

The Colts (7-1) and Bears (8-1) are next, according to the oddsmakers. That makes sense, although the Colts are not in very good salary cap shape and the Bears have a great big question mark at quarterback.

Several teams are tied for the longest odds, at 100-1: Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Oakland, San Francisco and Tampa Bay. Anything can happen in the NFL, but betting on those teams, even at 100-1, seems like throwing money away.

It's way too early to answer this question.
After free agency, the draft and the training camp's then one can make all of the speculations one wants.

A little side note-- In the Pro Bowl game, New Orleans QB Drew Brees suffered a severe injury to his arm and now he may not play until mid- 2007 season. So, the Saints are already hamstrung going into next year (losing the NFL's top passer) making these odds even more useless than when they were originally published.

You best believe it I am jumping on the Titans bandwagon right now. They will not only make the playoffs but win the AFC south. I don't care about the Indianapolis Colts winning the Super Bowl, they are over the cap and someone has to go. The Titans had the best record in the AFC south against there opponents, they went 4-2 and beat the Colts. They have Vince Young, Pacman Jones, Chris Hope, Keith Bulluck, Travis Henry, and David Thorton. They are gonna have another good draft this year and Vince Young will get better. Look out Peyton you might not be the star of Tennessee much longer.

The Chargers just fired Marty Schottenheimer and their defensive and offensive coordinators took head coaching jobs with other teams. Unless the Chargers land a really high profile head coach with lots of experience who can assume control quickly, I suspect that the Chargers will not reach the same level of performance next season.

The Chargers will not make it. The Super Bowl will be Jacksonville and San Francisco

It would not surprise me to see the Colts and Bears in the Super Bowl again next season with the same outcome

You can't predict. The Steelers and Panthers were favorites this year, look how that turned out. I'll take a stab and go with the Chargers and Saints.

I would have to say the experts can be wrong often. Think about the Carolina Panthers, favorites the past two years to win the Superbowl and this year they didn't even make the playoffs. I would have to say you can't say who has the best shot until some offseason moves are made.
