I am 14 and I have a boyfriend that is one year older than me. My dad thinks I'm too young but if it was up too him, I wouldn't even be able to goanywhere unless he's there. He is over protected. He fusses if a FRIEND guy calls and he fuss when I go to the park after school. (Even though the park is right next to the school). I call and let my mom know where I am but he still continues to fuss. It's all of my friends that I go to the park with. It's usually 3 boys and 3 girls and majority of the time there's grown ups at the park too.

I agree your father could lighten up with guys that are just friends. But you are too young for relationships. Doesn't matter how mature you are. You're too young to handle some of it's issues and that's just the plain truth. You may be 14 but you ARE still a kid. There is no hurry to grow up, trust me in a few years you really WILL wish you were 14 again. Boys at this age are even more immature than girls your age. Trust me, it's not worth the hassel. You should just be friends. You can flirt if you want. But I think anything more would be inappropriate til your 16. You need to really, REALLY know who you are. And who you wanna be, and how you define yourself. Many girls define themselve through their boyfriends. It never ends well. You're a kid, so enjoy the time you have left as one.

I know where you are coming from.

I was 14 and had a boyfriend. My dad was so not cool with it. I thought nobody understands me, nobody wants to give me any freedom, and no I did not listen to him. Sneaking behind his back, lying, sneaking out, and yes seeing my forbidden boyfriend.

Of course my dad was right. My boyfriend realized he wasn't getting none and moved on.

My daddy was so right. I should have known better. He was a young man at one time and knew the tricks of the trade.

And yes I was way too young.

I think 14 is too young to be having sex, but I think as long as you prove to your parents that you can be trusted, then it would be okay to have a boyfriend. Just be honest with your parents, and explain to them that you would be more inclined to be forthcoming with sharing your questions regarding relationships etc. if they weren't so over-protective. You should ask them to trust you, but promise yourself and them you won't have sex until your older, much older. Remember, your parents see all the stuff on the news about kids dissappearing and they are just concerned for your safety.
