My 7 foot Red Tailed boa busted threw the glass on his tank 2 days ago. I have looked in the usual places warm places, dark and cool places, tight corners, and the nooks and crannies. I have done everything besides tear the carpet up. Are there any traps that i could try? Or do you think he well appear when he gets hungry?

You, my friend, have quite the daunting task ahead of you. It is amazing the places a 7 foot long Red Tail can get into.

Permit me to share a few places I found mine when he got out:

1) crawling along the curtain rod.

2) jammed behind my stereo

3) I had cats and I had a "kitty condo". After an almost all night search for him I picked up the kitty condo and it felt heavy. I lifted it up and looked in the bottom section. Lo' and behold I saw the telltale Boa pattern scrunched way in the back. It was hell getting him out of that thing.

4) underneath a bookcase that could not have had more than three inches clearance.

Those are the stranger places. I am not even bothering with under the mattress or in the closet. This snake was a Master Escape Artist and I had him for 11 years. I gave him to a good home when I could not take him on a move.

Good luck!

If you live where it's getting cold now, set up a large plastic pan/box with water (like he would soak in) and a warm area (heat pad, lamp he can't knock over - you don't want a fire hazard, or open a single heat vent in the room) near where he was last. You might want to put down a plastic sheet to protect your floor/rug under the water pan. Turn out other lights in the area. He should be out looking for the warmth before long. These guys can hide in small places - I know an 8 footer that can squeeze into an area 16 x 12 x 4 - this is about half his hide box!

Honestly, with how ridiculously contagious IBD is, I see very little chance that your Boa does not have it. Boa usually last longer that pythons when IBD infects them, so the dilated eyes and paler color could very easily be a start to it. Sorry for your losses. Hopefully your Boa doesn't have it, but like I said, being realistic, it probably doesn't have a chance. Also, snakes need a day/night cycle too, so if the lamp lets off light it would be better to get either a heat mat or ceramic heat emitter(puts off heat but not light) if you need night heat.

Have you tried that trash can method yet? I'm not sure if it will work with such a big snake, but in the room he escaped from. Put some prey items (whatever you feed him) in a large trash can. The point to this method is that they climb in to eat and then cant climb out. Otherwise, just leave prey items out for him in various places, closets, under the bed, couch, ect. Anywhere he can fit.

Good luck, I hope you find him. I've lost snakes befor and most of the time I find them.

lmfao. oh man that is awesome. if i was you i would turn your heat in the house off, then turn ON all your lights but leave your living room light OFF, place a heat mat in the center of your living room and just simply wait. the reason for all this is he will want to go to a dark place with heat so turning ur heat off in the house and turning on all the lights will make him come out and search and prlly go to the living room. most of the time when i hear this happens they always end up in the walls of your house some how. hope you find the little booger.
