You can use q-tips for cleaning wax from the ear canal. However, if you're set on using them, you should hold on to the cotton end going in the canal and not go any deeper than that. If you go farther, you're likely to push the wax deeper into the canal where it can harden and cause hearing problems. Another alternative for wax removal is by using your fingernail to remove wax near the canal opening. Hope that clears it up for you!

They're good for removing makeup in a small area. They're good for cleaning a baby's belly button. They have many cleaning uses. You can use the Q-tip to clean the outer area of the ear, but should never put anything in your ear canal.

No, you're supposed to wipe outside the ear canal (which is the hole). Of course, it's ok to go into it a little bit, to get rid of the outer dirt. But don't go into it too far. Trust me, it hurts like hell and kept on hurting for quite a while.

They're to clean the outer ear...like by the parts where you get your ears pierced. It says so on the box.

I guess they are supposed to be for the outside of your ear and for applying stuff like ointments or makeup.

That's a very astute question.
The check up nurse is always
warning me about cleaning my
ears with Q-tips.
And I often think to myself, so
what are they for, then?

It is. But like you dont just stick it in and walk out the door, cuz people will think ur trying to become an alien or act like one(lol) but they are used for cars. Like cleaning the tires, kinda. It depends, cuz people have their reasons why they chose Q-tips to do whatever it is that they wana do with it.
