It is not fully engaging the gear in first. So linkage adjustment needs to be made(shorter if you push stick forward to put into first gear or longer if you pull stick toward you to put into first gear).

If that doesn't fix it then a dentention spring could be broken in the transmission that holds the stick in first. Go with the adjustment first, if the car worked before with the old bushings.

As others have said, though I am not sure you are in immediate danger as I've seen 915 transmissions develop this kind of problem in first and/or second and continue to work for quite some time (with the occassional pop-out).

I've also seen 915 transmissions have pop-outs under acceleration when in hard turns which seem to be due to mount issues combined with body flex (though you may need R-Compound tires and some very aggressive driving to replicate this - I've had this happen a couple times in a 915 equipped car at Laguna Seca).

And for some quick notes, 1982 911 would have a 915 transmission (the G50 was introduced in 1987). The 930 (which is a turbo) used the 930 transmission.

Say goodbye to first gear, sound like a damaged first gear and the gear on the input shaft---what happens is that it slowly eats itself. kind of feels like a washboard road threw the shifter?and Noisy?. But that all goes away when in different gears. Drain the transmission--and feel inside with a magnet--fastest way to find out.

Have it checked out and fixed ASAP. I had a 76 911S that ran great. I had it out one day for a 'spirited run', came off and interstate on-ramp and was at about 105 when I went to shift from 3rd to 4th. Instead it went 3rd to 2nd (at about 5800) and blew the engine. People told me that should never have been able to happen and never to happen as easily as it did....

If I'm not mistaken, that still has the 915 transmission (like I believe mine did ) [ not sure when they started the much improved G50 trans.....]

Have it checked out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

these guys are correct. just a note for the guy above me. the G50 tranny came into the 930s in 87, but not into the turbos.

Make sure you don't rest your hand on the shifter during shifts after you get your tranny rebuilt...

Good-Luck!
