People were originally a conglomeration of the types that we find on earth today, plus extinct "races", perhaps the so-called Neanderthals. The various "races" came about by isolated groups interbreeding and bringing forth characteristics. This is the same principal by which farmers breed various horses, cattle and even dogs. Obviously, there was no intent to come up with specific "breeds", as in the case of dogs, but the results were the same.

One groups was noticeably taller than another. One group had darker skin. Another group developed red or blond hair.

I suspect that the original people looked something like Middle Easterners do today. Darker than most Europeans, with black or dark brown hair. That is just my opinion.
