the reasons that they are endangered are that the pesticides and the brazilion fire ants are destroying the harvester ants and these are the lizards main source of food.

I would write to the local DNR and representatives to help ban the pesticide that is causing their decline, and to spread information about the Brazilian fire ants. However, invasive species are a tricky thing to get rid of, especially small ones like ants.
I believe that if the cause of endangerment is known, there is no reason that a species should not be able to be saved.

That is a real head scratcher. First land needs to be set aside for them. Then you have to figure out how to stop the spread of the fire ants or atleast put a dent in their numbers in the areas where these lizards occur.

Education. People need to be aware of the problem. Also we need to protect their habitat from development.
