Regardless of looks, the trend toward using athletes as fashion models is great. Top level athletes are _healthy_ and fit, not anorexic coke snorters (Kate Moss) and heroin junkies (like Arty Skanb, or whatever her name is).
If you want someone to set an example for average 15 year old girls, isn't it better to have someone like Maria Sharapova or Mia Hamm than someone who sticks their finger down their throat twice per day?
Besides that, athletes _are_ better looking than most models, both facially and bodily. Healthy _is_ sexy.

Fashion biggies are taking the first step. One of them is Vogue editor Anna Wintour. In Spain and Italy, for example, they are banning models that are not healthy looking or way to skinny. The trend in magazine nowadays are celebrity with normal sizes gracing the covers like Beyonce and Scarlet johansen and even tennis star like Sharpova

It's all lip service like anti-fur. We'll care for 5 minutes, change for a season or two and then it will be back...it's a cycle, just like all things fashionable.
