I work for windstream, a dsl company. You cannot get dsl without a phone connection. You can however find some very basic(useless) phone options for less than 10 dollars a month. Trust me though, it isn't possible to have dsl without a home phone line.

Technically, no. You will need SOME sort of minimum landline service in order to receive DSL.
I've heard a funny/horror story due to an over-eager guy who wanted his Vonage ASAP. He got AT&T Yahoo DSL, and he also got local phone service through AT&T local. He then got Vonage, and told Vonage to transfer his AT&T local phone number, so the local calls go to his Vonage connection. The problem is... That disconnects his AT&T local phone service, which also cuts off his DSL service... which also cuts off his... you guessed it... Vonage service. So he ended up with NO SERVICE. He called AT&T for help, but Vonage won't release the number back to AT&T just yet. And now he needs to pay AT&T for reconnection fee. :P
So look before you leap, okay?

The wireless router pluges into the Modem's WAN port. The router does not use a phone line. If you have DSL you will need a phone line to the modem as the DSL signal rides into your home on the phone line. All other phone lines need a filter that blocks the DSL signal from voice which also resides on the phone line.

It is possible, but most residential DSL providers do not offer the service necessary, and if they do it is often at an inflated price. You will be looking for 'bare' or 'naked' DSL.

I have tried to do that as well but verizon and a few other providers wont let me do it either. DSL uses your phone line.

Dial-up service? If that's what you mean, you need a land line to connect. If you mean broadband / high speed through your cable company or other source, no you don't need a land line for that connection.
