What about The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold? It's written from the perspective of a 14 year old murder victim.
If you like the fantasy/vampire type stuff and you haven't read Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, you might give that one a try.

I began reading the Life of Pi but found I couldn't finish it. It's a fantastic story of survival though and strongly recommend it. Also "My Sister's Keeper" and "The Tenth Circle" are books I recently read, both by the same author. [Jodi Picoult].
The series of Uglies; Pretties;Specials. [All different books] are also REALLY good. They're the best especially on how Uglies start out. Technology is amazing. =]
