The majority of techie people I talk to detest Norton, and I don't have a high opinion of it based on my limited experience.
But if it was the hell that some people depict then the company would have gone out of business a long time ago.
For some people it must work flawlessly, but for a lot of people it really does negatively impact their system.
The important think is that if it works for you then I think that's fantastic - Too many techies look at PC users who use Norton as if there's something wrong with the user for liking Norton

I used Norton utilities for many years for diagnostics, computer organizartion, utilities, ant-virus, ect. It seems to me that since Symantec bought them the quality of their software has gone downhill. For example I had Norton Ghost 2003 and it didn't work reliably, so I ordered Ghost 9.0. It didn't work at all and they were well aware of that because they sent the old version with it with instructions to use the old version if having problems with the new one. Now I use Acronis true image and it works perfectly. I also had problems with Norton Anti Virus Suite compatability with other software, got disgusted with it and replaced it with the free AVG Anti Virus and Zone Alarm, which have worked perfectly. Peter Norton was a very smart geek, but he sold out.

Norton makes your computer seem slower to many because it runs in the background taking up process, so if you have a slow machine this can be very aggervating as your pc is slow already.

It is a great program in terms of finding problems but:
1. It uses up WAY TOO MUCH memory which often slows your computer down
2. It costs money - there are programs that you can download that are as good and in some cases better (KasperSky) and are free!

...just because it didn't say anything doesn't mean it's good. Norton sucks because they bug you to upgrade for no good extra features. Pretty much- you get better ones for free. It's nagware.
