A woman only ovulates once a cycle. It's possible to ovulate more than one egg at a time and there is some evidence that another ovulation could occur w/in 12-24 hours or so of the first. Still, you essentially only ovulate 1 time, though you can be fertile for several days before ovulation if you have fertile quality cervical fluid.

As for your next period, you can expect it in the next week or 2. The time after ovulation and before the next period is called the luteal phase. A normal luteal phase is around 12-14 day and tends to stay the same in each cycle for a particular woman. That is, your LP will stay the same w/in a day or so for each cycle. It's possible to have a shorter LP though. An LP of shorter than 10 days can make it very difficult to get pregnant even though you might be conceiving.

I highly recommend the following resources: Fertilityfriend.com (software for free and for purchase, online charting tutorial). Ovusoft.com (charting software for purchase and discussion groups), Couple-to-Couple League (not sure of the website). The books: Taking Charge of Your Fertility (assoc w/ ovusoft) and Garden of Fertility. TCOYF at least should be available at the library.

Beyond the fact that there's more of a difference between an egg and an embryo that you apparently realize, this argument is just as silly as the extreme position on the other side of the debate that use of contraception is just as bad as abortion itself. Neither extreme makes any sense. We don't have control over whether the sperm will fertilize an egg even if one did have sex every time they ovulated; to say that's the same as having an elective abortion is inane.

I am not trying to be rude about this or anything but if you took an ovulation test then you should have read the instructions....and if you are trying to get pregnant, then you should know you only ovulate once a month.

They'll tell you that it's only FERTILIZED eggs that make it a "potential human being" not really understanding your argument. Also, not understanding biology they will fail to realize plenty of fertilized eggs fail to implant themselves, therefore becoming wasted anyways.
