Dragons to Chinese, especially older generations, are Mystical and godlike symbol. They are treated with utmost respect. Chinese often refer themselves as Long De Chuan Ren (The desendents of the Dragons).

Only Ancient Emperor of China is allow to wear clothing that are embodied with Dragons designs (known as Long Po) as a recognition as Tian Zi (the son of the god.) Empress wore Phoenix design instead to portray a motherly figure to all Ancient China.

Anyone caught wearing the Long Po or making them without the permission of the imperial court will be punishable by death as they treated as REBELS.

There's many different types of dragon in Chinese Mythology, each with different roles to play. Unlike Western Dragons, Chinese Dragons are deemed to able to fly among the skies and have 4 claws. The most famous is call the Dong Hai Long Wang (Direct Translation will be Eastern Sea Dragon King - whose duties is in charge of the Rain and Drought in the Eastern China).

This is why in Chinese Temples, Dragon Designs can be found on the pillars as Chinese believe the the Dragons can reach the heaven and protect Chinese from natural distasor.

As a respect to Chinese culture, it is not advisable to mock dragons in front of Chinese as they may find it offensive. It is more common for Fengshui Master to use Dragon Design to ward off evil spirits as Chinese believe that Dragon are holy symbol.

PS: Younger generation Chinese like me are more Westernize, therefore don't mind the comical design of dragons nor the portrayal of Dragons as evil in Western Mythology.
