1. Helped Franco with the Spanish Civil War
Hitler sent a number of lufwaft airplanes to Spain to aid Franco during the war. Many historians speculate that it was more an attempt to gain experience fighting from the sky for the war to come than it was true support for Franco.
2. Invasions
Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Hungary with zeal in anticipation of the war to come. I feel as though Hitler knew war was imminent. Nobody can be so foolish as to think that the British and French would let him conquer Europe without a fight. These invasions were test cases for his soldiers on the ground.
Edit: you're absolutely right about Hungary (and I have the nerve to call myself a 20th century historian!).

,basically propaganda to adjust the attitude and mentality of the public.
he courted Franco in Spain ,Salazar in Portugal and Musilini in Italy ,gave them aid and training
he also placed his people well in advance , in many countries ,for feed back and to release propaganda.
and he invade insignificant countries first to see if there would be a reaction ,there was not ,so he kept going
he had many meetings with many heads of state to check their attitude and made deals, well ahead of the war
the german industry for war material also worked well in advance
don't forget that Hitler was just a front or spokesman for the Illuminati ,he was an illegitimate child of baron Von Rothschild and these people were all over the place in banking .Industry ,the media and in politics, all over the world.
so the whole war , its actions and motives ,came from them ,it was a great quest for global control ,favoring members of an elite genetic clan, and this has never stopped ,
the New World Order is going right on schedule , the location has shifted ,the power ,in the wings ,has not

James B:Hitler didn't invade Hungary before WWII...maybe you were thinking about Austria.
Hitler also mobilized his military in preparation for war and took back traditional German lands such as the Saarland and the Sudetenland in part because he wanted to incorporate them back into the Reich but also because he wanted to test the Allies' reaction. He also negotiated a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union so that he wouldn't have to fight a war on several fronts (at least initially) if things came to a head.

Hitler wasn't preparing for global war. He wanted to eat the artichoke leaf by leaf.

He gave preferential contracts, and concealed subsidies, to the motor car manufacturers Mercedes-Benz and Auto-Union. By 1934 they began to develop better and better racing-car engines. Famous makes like Bugatti and Alfa-Romeo could not compete with them, and they dominated European Grand Prix racing, right up to the start of the war. Their high-powered engines went straight into combat vehicles, and especially into Stuka dive bombers and Messerschmitt fighters.
