It would be hard not to. He hasn't had Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming play more than 10 games together and yet, they are tops in the conference minus Dallas and Phoenix. Plus, he has been preaching fundamentals to a group and they are listening despite half the starting lineup doesn't play. Bonzi Wells has been injured thus causing van Gundy to find someone to fill his spot. I would definitely give van Gundy the Coach of the Year honors at this point of the season.

VG has done a fantastic job this year without Yao for a good portion of the year and T-Mac and his off and on back problems. Like you said, what he's done with players like Chuck Hayes, Mutumbo's resurgance, and Howard playing better than he has in a long time is incredible.
Does he deserve it? Yes. I just have a feeling this is going to be Jerry Sloan's year. Utah is playing over their head this year and not having won it before, I feel the league is going to honor Sloan.
