...would you bring the child into your home or leave him/her there and wait for the paramedics and cops to do the caring?

Sound like a stupid question? I hope so...

Sometimes I wonder if people still value community or if irrational distrust and hatred rules the world. If you don't have any clue what I'm talking about then CONGRATULATIONS, you are sane.

If anyone (adult or child) was bleeding or dying at my front doorstep, I'd stabilize them as much as possible (control any major bleeding, provide CPR as needed) and call my ambulance company's dispatch to send an ambulance to my location.

However, it's noteworthy to mention that male rapists have been known to dress up as females, wait in a secluded area, and when a woman passes by, they start crying, and say they've been raped. As the woman comes close to help, the rapist uses the situation to his advantage.

I'd probably wait outside with the patient, that way I could see any passing ambulance to flag it down if needed.

Some people are really uncomfortable with the idea of blood. I wouldn't put them down because of it. AIDS and hepatitis isn't all that easy to catch just from blood contact, as long as your skin is intact and you don't have any cuts or abrasions that come into contact with the blood. If you aren't trained to deal with blood and bodily fluids, then you shouldn't have to. Just do what you feel you are comfortable with, and call 911 for assistance. Personally, I don't feel comfortable performing mouth to mouth resuscitation unless I have some kind of a barrier present. I know a few paramedics who don't have that reservation. If you don't have the training to deal with emergency medical situations, then the best thing you can do is to call 911, anyways. Sometimes, it's the only thing you can do.

Hope this helps...

I'd be more worried that people would think that I injured the child. I would call 911 and ask the operator to walk me through what to do. Whether or not I need the advice, they log those calls, so I could use it as evidence that I did not harm the child. Not sure if it would hold up in court, but it's better than dragging a crying, bleeding four year old into my house.

Hmm. Depends, I guess. Is it raining and/or very cold outside? How badly is the child bleeding, or how painfully is he/she dying? Just kidding. Of course I'd take em in. Yeah, I'd wait for the paramedics and stuff to come, but inside the house, I wouldn't know what to do with a bleeding or dying kid, but I'm sure they would. Yeah, sounds like a stupid question, but hey. It's always nice to know what other people would do in some weird situation like this. Thanks for the smile, anyway, the last bit of your question was about as cynical as it gets, but I completely agree.

yikes, well, given that i don't know cpr, i'd do the best I can for the kid and hope the ambulance gets here soon, but i'd say you are really asking this question because you witnessed this happening. if so... why didn't you do anything about it? or perhaps a better question - what can you do to start rebuilding a sense of community in your area so that it does not happen again?

Wouldn't a quick call to 9-1-1 and following their instructions be the best thing to do?

obviously you call 911 and then ask them what to do. you can't always move a person as it will cause more damage. otherwise i would definately bring the child inside till the medics came.

haha there's always a chance when you move someone that's hurt you can injure them more - you don't know if they have a blood disease like AIDS, so much. nothing wrong with calling 911 better than closing the door in their face

I would try to help, hoping that the Almighty YHVH had put the child there for my help, and that He would guide me so I could help.
