How to dye a polyester window scarf?

I have a polyester white window scarf,very sheer...I want to dye it tan or sand color. How do I do this and what type of dye do I need?I tried just buying a new one and cannot find one that fits a double window, so I figured I would just dye the one I have...HELP! CLUELESS .....Not a crafty Mom!

Polyester is very hard to dye. Why dont you soak it in coffee and see how that goes, just alittle to start for the light colour.
