I like him because of his positions on issues.

I just finished reading his latest book, and he's very much a centrist. He speaks admirably about the consensus-building style of governance, and seems to model himself after Clinton and Bush 41, oddly enough.

In foreign policy, he has explicitly stated that while the U.S. should reserve the right to act unilaterally, it should be a right only used in the rarest instances, and that not only is it morally better to pursue international unity for an action, it is generally more effective. As such, he approves of the Afghanistan invasion, but not the Iraq one.

Domestically, his stated ideal is that the government exists for two primary purposes. First, it should make the free market more effective by developing things like infrastructure, promoting research, and verifying the legal integrity and transparency of our monetary systems. Secondly, he believes the government should provide a low-level safety net to take the rough edges off off the free market, as well as to give people the courage to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors.

He's certainly more moderate than me, but he and I agree that the main thing we need is a government that works, and perhaps his moderation is the best way to achieve that.

his speeches are truly electrifying, and moving. He talks very personally, and seems very down to earth. Hes just a comfortable person to think upon, and is very smart and charismatic. I think there's a lot more than that needed in a president, but these are the reasons why hes just come out of no where and is now running for president. I saw him speak in the democratic national convention on behalf of John Kerry in like 2003, and i said that night, "that dudes going to be president some day". that's how much energy he gives off when he speaks, and i didn't even have a clue on how he stands on any of the issues. human beings take that kinda stuff into a lot of consideration, sometimes even unknowingly.

i absolutely love the way he dealt with fox news.

they ran that horrid lie about him being in a madrasa and blamed it on hillary.

the smear merchants over at fox thought they were pretty darn clever until obama DEALT with them in the most expedient and devastating way possible.

he just said he'd never go on that network again.

a candidate currently running 18-20% points above the top republican prospects IS DENYING FOX ACCESS.

roger ales called obama to offer a personal apology.

fox is reeling and other dem candidates are now probably going to follow suit if and when fox targets them.

that will mean that fox will be denied access to all of the top dem candidates.

their bias will be obvious and if the dem candidate wins, it will mean that fox news will not have access to the white house for the following four or eight years.

if that happens, fox news may as well run cartoons for the next presidency.

they could be in real trouble and they know it, and will now wise up.

fox news fears obama - how can you NOT love that...

He represents change in a good way. A breath of fresh air. A non-white president is huge. I never thought I'd see the day when a minority member or female would actually even consider presidency. It's a great time we live in and a great country.

Not to mention that he is a handsome man, a little too old for my taste, but definetely good looking ;-)

After having a president for so long that was came off as very stubborn and stuck to one side of the spectrum I think people are starting to get sick of it. I think people respond to how moderate he is and believe that means that we will be able to get more done politically than in years past because we won't be wasting time in circular debates.

I'm personally not sold on him yet but I can see why some people think he's a good choice.

He is intelligent and thinks about the issues. He considers the peoples opinions before acting. People want to be represented not ignored. Making decisions against popular opinions is condescending. A good leader listens to the people not just the rich supporters.

They like him for the same reason people immediately liked JFK: because he is good looking.

Once they get past the superficial good looks, they are smitten with his excellent speaking ability.

However, I doubt if 1 person in 100 really knows what he stands for, what his political accomplishments have been, nor what his voting record is like.

I once read a study that women overwhelming vote for the best looking candidate. That is a shocking indictment against the need for deeper understanding of the issues.

Let's hope people think Condaleeza Rice is one heck of a good looking woman (.... and she is !)

He's black and good looking. The presidential election is not about politics anymore. It's a beauty contest.

Most people should not be allowed to vote.

Easy. Because he looks like Abraham Lincoln ...minus the hat, the beard, and the achromia.

They like him because he is a minority, educated and can speak well. I think most people do not know where he stands on the issues.
