It has a chorus 'war paint, war paint, you don't need war paint...' about a guy complining that his gf is wearing too much make up..'your not going out to start a war, your only going out with the guy next door....'
it was sung by a guy band, I know Lorrie Morgan did a song called war paint, but not this one. It was quite a hit I think

Brooks Brothers, got to No.5 in 1961 UK charts. May have been covered by other artists since then. They also did a cover of Hello Mary Lou, and three button jacket the same year Nixon won Presidency.

That's not Lorrie Morgan the country singer is it? Cause i didn't think she was around in the fifties. But i'd go with "Fonzie" on it, he knows quite a bit (as i've run across his answers) and he may be an older Gent from that period. LOL!

Bill Haley and the Comets did this song around 1961, but I am not sure whether Bill wrote the song himself or just covered it.

There's also a Rush song by the same title, but that one is way more recent-- 1989-- so that's not the one you mean, in all likelihood.

Lorrie Morgan released her song of the same name in 1994, so that one is out as well.
