I personally know what you are going through because I smoked for many years and tried several different methods including the nicotine gum, nicotine patches and could not quit. Finally my wife ask me if she got her Dr. to prescribe Chantix would I take it? I was desperate at this point my lungs had a rattle, I has a dry cough and short winded so I said yes. To make a long story short I took the chantix and smoked while I was taking it and after a week I needed only a few cigs a day. I did have some vivid dreams while on the medication that was the only side effect I had. Chantix does not work for everyone but it did for me. Its worth a try. Good luck

Your fathers problem is his problem, not your problem. You are right about the addiction. He made the decision to breath the smoke, and he has to make the decision to stop breathing smoke. It's really that simple. No medicine will do the job. No son will convince him to stop. It has to be his decision. There are things you can take that will make the smoke unbearable but it would be up to him to take it. Again it's his decision. I quit smoking years ago. I started the addiction and I stopped the addiction. I can honestly say that the means to help me stop was I learned to meditate using a mantra. Once I make a decision I can stick with it. The stress from the past is usually what creates the road blocks to making good decisions. Clear away the garbage from the past to remove the garbage in the present.
